FAQ
You can read our most frequently asked questions here and some accompanying blog posts written by our Principal, Miss Jay.
How much do classes cost?
Please see our pricing structure below. This couldn’t be simpler.
3 x class lengths = 3 x prices:
45 mins – £8.00 / 60 mins – £8.50 / 90 mins – £11.50
Discounts are available to students who take BOTH the Ballet and Tap or Ballet, Tap and Contemporary Modern Jazz combination class AND the Freestyle and Acro Dance combination class.
Package 1 – 60 mins + 60 mins – £16.00 Package 2 – 90 mins + 90 mins – £20.00
- Additional classes such as Musical Theatre, Contemporary, LAMDA* and Pointe are charged at the single class cost rate stated above according to the class length
- A 20% sibling discount is available for the lowest-paying sibling
- LAMDA is a small group class, and will be charged at £10.00
- Using our direct debit system (GoCardless), fees are collected monthly. Fees are calculated over 39 weeks of the year and spread over 12 months. This does mean payment will be collected in August to help spread the cost. Please do not cancel your August payments, as they are a pro-rata contribution to the annual cost of classes.
Just a reminder about what is so good about monthly payments:
- Smaller, manageable amounts
- No surprises. Every month is the same.
- Use of GoCardless the UK’s most reliable and trusted secure Direct Debit company
- No card fees (we pick this up for you)
What age do classes start from?
Our Little Rascals pre-school dance classes start from 2 years old. However, children come into class independently without their grown up. So, for children who are not quite ready for that yet, we have our Grown Up & Me dance classes available.
Where and when do classes take place?
Please check out our timetable where you will find details on all the classes we offer and the addresses of the venues we work from. All our classes take place in Leamington Spa
Can my child just take one class, or do they need to do everything?
Yes, we have lots of single-class options such as Freestyle & Acro only, Ballet, Tap & Contemporary Modern only, Musical Theatre, Contemporary & LAMDA. A discount is available for students who take our two core combination classes.
Different genres of dance complement each other in varying ways, and students that take multiple classes will benefit and develop with the additional tuition and all-round dance education.
Do students take exams?
Yes! The teaching team at Jaykays Dance Company are members of the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), one of the world’s largest examination boards. Using their Ballet, Tap, Contemporary Modern, Freestyle & Musical Theatre syllabus, we train students to enter examinations. We also enter our Acting students for LAMDA (London Academy of Dramatic Arts) exams. Students can gain OFQUAL-recognised qualifications and earn credits and UCAS points as they climb to higher grades.
We believe that examinations create a standard within our school, and we are very proud of our 100% pass rate. We take pride in caring for our industry by contributing to the performing arts pathway of young people through graded examinations. One of our core values is Confidence, and the teaching team will spend a lot of class time ensuring students are prepared, motivated and confident to be the best they can be. Classes at Jaykays Dance Company start with enjoyment and turn into a passion. This is where students then progress and succeed.
Do you do a show?
Every year we take the Jaykays army to the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington for our annual production. This is the highlight of our year. It takes such an incredible amount of work, but goodness me it is so worth it!
Do classes run all year round?
No. Our classes run term-time only in accordance with the Warwickshire school calendar. We therefore run and charge for 39 weeks of the year but divide this cost into 12 equal monthly payments collected by our Direct Debit provider.
We also run a Summer School of Performing Arts during the summer holidays and run additional events during the school holidays such as guest workshops, school trips, private lessons, and our Dance Labs for secondary school aged students.
What does my child need to wear?
For your trial class, please just dress in activewear such as leggings, jogging bottoms, cycling shorts, t-shirts & trainers. Please no denim, skirts or dresses.
We have a required uniform at Jaykays Dance Company, and you can check our Uniform Guide via the button.
We believe in getting dressed for success, and turning up in the required uniform not only contributes to a positive attitude towards learning, but it keeps students safe and is also in-keeping with our ten commandments. We really do like our dancers to attend class well-groomed, and we would love for their hair to be in a classical ballet bun. We understand that this is not always possible, especially if your child has a 4.30pm class, but a neat slick back pony tail, or French plaits would also be suitable. Well dressed and neatly groomed students will be acknowledged and rewarded. Please avoid wearing watches, jewellery or long acrylic nails.
What does my child need for their trial class?
- Clothing suitable to move in, such as activewear; leggings, jogging bottoms, t-shirt. No dresses, skirts or jeans. Outdoor shoes such as trainers if you’re taking tap dance. If you want to check out what our dancers wear, then take a look at our uniform guide via the button.
