Jaykays Dance Company’s Online Summer Fete, in Aid of Myton Hospice

Jaykays have supported Myton Hospice for many years as a local charity that means a lot of many of our dance families. To date we have raised a total of £2984 for the charity!

Usually at this time of year we would be busy in class rehearsing freestyle routines to take to perform at their Summer Fete. Sadly, this could not happen this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and the charity has been experiencing severe fundraising losses due to cancelled fundraising events. After supporting the event for 14 years, we decided to use our July Zoom Freestyle Dance classes for students to learn the routines they would have been performing at the fete, and end with a huge virtual performance on what would have been the Myton Hospice summer fete date – Sunday 19th July. 

It was £6 per dancer to register and then we asked our families to think about what they would usually have spent at the fete in the Pimms Tent (that might just be me 🤪), Aubry Allen BBQ, ice cream van & stalls and add that on too. There was also an option to donate to our fundraising event even if you did not have a dancer to enrol.

“Such a brilliant idea that the dancers could still perform for Myton Hospices. It has become a lovely annual tradition for a lot of them so to be able to still do it was wonderful. Thank you to Miss Jay and Miss Liz for doing 7 hours online during the performances, and then all the teaching hours they put in too, and also thank you to Myton Hospices for arranging it with them. The amount raised is incredible. Well done Jaykays!”

The day was a huge success and Miss Liz and I had so much fun with warm ups, rehearsals and a final Zoom screen recording of each group. We are delighted to announce that we raised £839 from this virtual event, and are so pleased we were able to still support the event and the charity despite it being cancelled.
