After Abby’s reply of “hell yeah, keep talking” it was safe to say she was on board with my idea to launch a PE channel to support the families in our local community as our children faced another period of homeschooling.

I loved the idea of being able to deliver free live PE lessons to primary school aged children and knew that dance & gymnastics were popular subjects delivered in school, so I reached out to LWGC to collaborate. As we discussed the idea we decided that we’d like to feature and promote some of the other local clubs & classes in the area that provide physical activity for children. Before we knew it we had Lillington Juniors FC, Leamington Athletics Club, Leamington Netball Club & Swimworks all involved.

We created a YouTube channel & had over 300 subscribers. Local papers shared the story, and Abby was interviewed by Midlands Today & BBC CWR.

As I became aware of just how long this third lockdown was going to go on for, I decided that we needed to give our PE lessons some structure and a plan. I therefore decided to research some of the KS1 and KS2 topics and turn them in PE lessons, such as Egyptians, Ancient Greece, Space and Habitats. We loved being creative with these topics and saw how much learning potential there was by exploring a topic through dance. Furthermore, there is a lot of scientific evidence to support the idea that movement and cognition are connected. By integrating movement into the classroom you are optimising the conditions for learning and performance.

However, I was homeschooling my 12 & 6 year old children and my partner was a key worker, so our PE lessons were only achievable because of one of Jaykays teacher Liz Ravenhall. Liz jumped on board with the project and volunteered her time to prepare, plan and deliver the lessons.

The PE channel ran for 7 weeks and has 18 PE lessons available to watch and join in with.
