Welcome to showtime at Jaykays Dance Company!

Our annual show is such an exciting event to take part in. Itā€™s a wonderful opportunity for them to perform on a stage with lights, costumes and make-up. We understand that there can be a lot of information to take in. As well as FAQs we will keep updating this page with everything you need to know, as we go so do check back here regularly.

WHEN DOES THE SHOW TAKE PLACE?

Our show takes place on Saturday 4th May with a matinee and evening performance at The Spa Centre. Students MUST be able to take part in both performances, apart from the Reception children (Saturday 9.45am class) who will appear in the Matinee show only. You will receive a rehearsal schedule detailing all of the extra rehersals. There is a charge for these extra rehearsals that will appear on your Spring Term invoices that replace your regular class costs.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO ATTEND ALL REHEARSALS?
Yes! All of these extra rehearsals provide students with the opportunity to polish routines and increase their confidence and stage presence with this additional practice. We want all students to feel super confident so they can be the best they can be on show nights. Please remember that these are group routines and that your child is part of a team. If one piece of the puzzle is missing it makes it very difficult for the rest of the team members to rehearse.
DO THE 5 AND 6 YEAR OLDS COPE WITH THE LATE NIGHTS?

All children in the BABY age group (Reception, Year 1 & Year 2) have earlier finishing times to the rest of the cast. This is our 12th show and from experience they are all having such a great time that they seem to manage these extra practices brilliantly.

AM I ALLOWED BACKSTAGE WITH MY CHILD?
We require any persons backstage to be in possession of an official Chaperone License that is issued via the Warwickshire County Council. Due to health and safety we only allow cast members and our backstage team past the signing in desk. There is a cast of 190 dancers this year and too many bodies backstage is unsafe. Each age group is assigned a changing room and a chaperone. They will be there to assist them with anything they need and chaperone them to the toilets. Our backstage team are all in possession of a current DBS certificate and are all experienced at helping backstage at these events. Please note there will always be two qualified first aiders on site at each rehearsal and performance.
WHAT DO I DO WHEN I DROP MY CHILD OFF FOR REHEARSALS AND SHOW NIGHTS?
There will always be a member of our backstage team present at the signing in desk. Each parent must complete a show consent form for their child to take part. This form will have all of your emergency contact details. It will also ask you for a password if you are sending someone else to pick up your child. We will ask them for this. There is no where for you to wait whilst rehearsals take place. The rehearsals are for a decent amount of time so we encourage you to go home and come back later to collect your child or lift share if you can. Please make these arrangements known at the signing in desk.

I KNOW MY CHILD NEEDS TO WEAR A COSTUME FOR EACH DANCE. HOW MUCH WILL THESE BE?
It is very difficult to give you this figure. The type of routine will affect the type of costume. If your child takes all subjects they will be in more dances and if they are older they will also be in more dances and again this will affect your costume invoice. Please be aware that we do our absolute best to keep costume costs minimal as well as striving to achieve a super professional production.Ā  We are very realistic and do not expect each dance to have a spectacular bespoke costume.

HOW DO WE BUY TICKETS?

You can do this via the Spa Centre Box Office. We will announce the on-sale date, and you’ll be access the box office via a link added to this page.

CAN I PHOTOGRAPH MY CHILD ON STAGE?

No you are unable to do this for child protection reasons. We do get the show professionally photographed and recorded. You will have the opportunity to purchase these professional photographs after the show has taken place. A copy of the DVD can be preordered via the button below.

WHY DOES MY CHILD NEED TO WEAR MAKE-UP?
Hair and make-up is part and parcel of dance and the performance of dance. When performers are on stage in a large theatre we need to accentuate their features so we can see their faces more clearly. Blusher on cheeks will brighten dull and washed out faces, eyeliner, eye shadow and mascara will define their eyes and lipstick with define their lips and smile! Your child needs to have a small bag with a few pieces of basic make-up in but we will have our backstage team and senior students all present to apply it.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT DANCES MY CHILD IS IN?
In the lead up to the event we will stick a running order up on the door at all of the venues we work from. We will also send it via email, post on the Jaykays Parents Page on Facebook & it will be in the Parent’s Area of the website.Ā  We will also issue a costume list nearer the time highlighting the dances your child is in. The costume list will run you through a check list of everything your child needs including the main costume, tights/socks, shoes and hair accessories. Please check you have everything you need and CLEARLY NAME EVERYTHING! Please note there will be no ā€œspareā€ costumes or accessories! Once you have received yours please look after it carefully. Please donā€™t allow your child to wear them outside or play dress up in them at home and please do not wash them!
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THEY NEED TO BRING WITH THEM OTHER THAN COSTUMES?
We ask you to bring their costume in a clear storage box with their name on the lid. This helps our backstage team greatly with tidying up and ensuring children leave with their costumes and no one else’s! Please pack in their box something to do whilst they wait backstage for their turn to perform. Books, magazines, card games, travel games. Please NO felt tips!!! Our backstage team and chaperones do a fantastic job at keeping the children entertained and occupied! Please also pack them with a water bottle and snacks. NO fizzy drinks, chocolate and NO NUTS!Ā  The younger students will all be dressing in the Spa Centre Studio which has a large cinema screen in it. We will be putting on a film during the second half of the show for them to enjoy!
WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO WEAR TO REHEARSALS?
All performers will have a show t-shirt which can be worn at rehearsals over their black catsuits or with black leggings. They must bring all shoes with them ā€“ ballet shoes, tap shoes and jazz shoes etc. Hair must be tied up neatly, ideally in a bun.

Curious Zoom CallĀ

View the first Zoom call with Miss Jay Here

Please ensure you have joined the Jaykays Students and Parents private group on Facebook so you can keep up to date with any information. It is an excellent way to communicate and ask any questions. With a cast of 200 performers I may not be able to reply to all the texts and emails immediately. Sometimes another parent, assistant teacher or senior student may have the answer to your question.
